Multi-Level Energy Storage System
viktor kaplan muerz gmbh (VKM) is a regional energy producer based in Mürzzuschlag in Styria. The company plans, builds and operates plants to generate electricity from emission-free sources. Its portfolio includes a small hydropower plant on the River Mürz and the Moschkogel wind farm.
VKM follows in the tradition of Viktor Kaplan, the inventor of the Kaplan turbine who grew up in Mürzzuschlag. With each new project, the company transforms this technical legacy into modern solutions for the energy transition.
Our services
Renewable generation follows the weather, not the load profile of the electricity grid. This is precisely where large-scale energy storage systems come in. They decouple generation and consumption, enable flexible marketing and stabilize the grid.
Multi-level ESS in indoor installation
We are currently building a multi-level energy storage system for VKM in Mürzzuschlag. Fifteen stand-alone storage units are being installed in a building and operated in a network. The indoor installation permanently protects the system from the weather and ensures stable operating temperatures.
Each unit is based on the same standardized module that is already in use in other ebs group projects. Thanks to the multi-level architecture, the fifteen storage units can be controlled independently or synchronously. Combined, this results in a total output of 1,012.5 kW with a nominal storage capacity of 3.924 MWh.
Applications
- Marketing renewable energy
- Self-consumption optimization
- Peak load capping
- Grid-compatible energy supply
- System services for grid stabilization
