egate Battery Monitoring System

The Battery Monitoring System egate, consisting of Battery Monitoring Unit and Balancer Board, enables real-time monitoring and analysis of battery data such as voltage, temperature and state of charge to provide precise insights into battery performance. Over 10,000 installed systems safeguard critical applications in the renewable energy sector.

The battery monitoring unit is a powerful BMS master computing unit and PROFINET gateway in one and offers a modular, flexible software architecture. In addition to monitoring and controlling the battery pack, the BMU calculates and monitors all parameters and makes them available to a PROFINET IO controller as system-relevant data that could not previously be retrieved in conventional lead-acid battery applications.

Battery monitoring unit with network and power connections

Highlights

  • Monitoring the battery parameters
  • Calculation of the charging current specification
  • Calculation of the state of charge (SoC)
  • Calculation of the battery status (SoH)
  • Reporting of errors and critical states
  • Fieldbus communication, e.g. PROFINET with central controller

Slave balancer modules integrated in the battery pack ensure proper operation, measure voltage and temperature and ensure balancing of the cells.

The balancer boards were developed for integrated fixed installation within a battery pack. They ensure that the state of charge is balanced between individual cells and are used to monitor the voltages and operating temperatures of the cells in order to detect critical conditions. This ensures the safe operation of the battery pack. Communication with the battery monitoring unit (BMU) takes place in a daisy chain via the isoSPI communication interface.

egate Battery Management System

The egate Battery Management System BN is a further development of the Battery Monitoring System. It was developed with the aim of offering the greatest possible flexibility in adapting to different cell chemistries, capacities through cell interconnections and voltage classes, without compromising on safety. This is achieved through modularization into the Battery Control Unit, Battery Disconnect Unit and Cell Monitoring Unit.

Highlights

  • Surge voltage resistance up to 6.0 kV
  • Use at working heights of up to 4,000 m
  • Extended temperature application range -18°C to 65°C
  • High DC ripple stability up to 4 kHz

egate protocol converter

Our powerful egate protocol converters are based on a scalable netX 90 platform. Based on this multi-protocol SoC, we are able to develop protocol converters for a wide range of applications within short development cycles. Reduce your operating costs through maximum reliability. Our maintenance-free converters connect all your machines (old & new) to form a seamless system and run stably in 24/7 continuous operation - without failures.

BiSS gateway with Ethernet and D-Sub connections

Highlights:

  • Short development cycles thanks to an adaptable platform
  • Quick adaptation of all interfaces possible
  • Reduce operating costs and avoid expensive system failures thanks to 100% maintenance-free continuous operation
  • Mounting on top-hat rail (DIN rail)

The egate BiSS enables the connection of up to two sensors that implement the BiSS safety protocol. The data received is forwarded from the BISS gateway to a PROFINET IO controller via PROFINET and PROFIsafe. This allows more and more accurate data to be provided with fewer sensors. The result is longer and optimized operation of the application at lower costs.

In egate EnDat, the data received via EnDat 2.2 from up to two sensors or actuators is made available to a PROFINET IO controller via PROFINET and PROFIsafe (art. no. 4260629980077).
